Candidate for
Mayor; City of Gilroy

I have lived in Gilroy since 1964 and graduated from Gilroy High School. I have owned Al Pinheiro Insurance for 27 years, and along with my wife, Vilma, have owned Caravelle World Travel for 12 years.

I have been an active member of the Gilroy community. My involvement has included serving as the President of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, Founding President of the Gilroy Exchange Club, President of the I.F.D.E.S. Lodge, served on the Planning Commission in 1994-1999 and was serving my second term when I was elected to the City Council in November 1999.

My roots are well planted in this community, and I have a strong sense of the needs of our community from a personal and business perspective. My focus is on sensible growth, safety, and a quality of life for my family and for my community. And finally, I want others to take advantage of being a part of the solution and to get involved in the process.

As mayor, I will work to bring consensus to our council and take Gilroy into the future with emphasis on a vibrant downtown, creating local jobs, affordable housing, and use infill as a major tool to have contiguous growth and preservation of open space for future generations to come.
