Lake Elsinore City Council Election Reelect Genie Kelley November 4th, 2003

Items/issues

1. Spearheaded moving the library from the old building to the new one. The idea came from a citizen and I worked with Supervisor Buster to see it accomplished.
2. Worked with county and school district to make sure there would be a new public/school library in the new high school on Riverside Dr. There will be!
3. Created the Elsinore Valley Arts Network.
4. Created the Music With a View Concert Series and raised $20,000 each year for the past 5 years to make sure it is free to residents. So far so good.
5. Responded to youth in the community for a skate park and got that built using some state park bond dollars and some city dollars. People forget 1/2 the money for the skate park was from state park dollars and could not be used for say, police or fire or roads.
6. Worked with Bob Schiffner to solve the EVMWD lawsuit and come up with a plan that would stabilize the lake. We did that! Both entities deposit over $500,000 every year (starting budget year 2002-3) to make sure there will be some water dollars. EVMWD is retrofitting wells to help with this need.
7. Was able to get additional dollars each year out of the budget for books and items at the library. This year it was $40,000.

Items we as a Council pushed for:

1. Resolved four or five major lawsuits.
2. Costco and all that follow it!
3. Cleaning and landscaping of outflow channel- Mainly Kevin Pape's push but council all supported.
4. New police station.
5. New fire station at west end. Worked with county to get some $ help with this.
6. Palm tree preservation committee and palm tree issue.
7. Just added new police and medics.
8. Pushed for retrofitting of old expensive field lights on soccer and park fields to new ones that were less expensive and easier to replace.

Items I worked on outside of council

Co-founded & chaired the Grad Night Committee at Temescal Canyon High. Restarted the Friends of the Library.

Because of my work on the Arts Network and the concert series I was named one of 50 Women of Distinction for Riverside County in 1999. Also named Teacher of the Year for Rice Canyon 2003.
