The last four years I have worked diligently to govern and make important decisions based on what is best for the children of our district. During my time on the board I have taken a hands-on approach by meeting with parents and students, talking with teachers, and visiting our schools. The last 2 years our budget has been balanced and fiscally sound.

I truly believe our children deserve a proven leader who has a track record of restoring a sense of teamwork, stability, and forward momentum for the future.

Financially, our state government has never been in worse shape. This is not the time for on-the-job training or unproven leadership. Little Lake needs the continuity and consistency of a board member who has worked hard to affect change and is accessible.

I earned an A.A. degree, with honors, from Cerritos College. I will be receiving my Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of La Verne within the next few months. To serve effectively on behalf of all children in our district, I completed a two-year program offered by the Calif School Board Association called the Masters of Governance that equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the challenging role as a school district leader. Some of the priorities I have set for the upcoming year are:

  • Keeping the District focused on learning and achievement for all students.

  • Ensure that a safe and nurturing educational environment is provided to all students.

  • Continue adopting a fiscally responsible budget based on the district's vision and goals, and regularly monitor the fiscal health of the district.

  • Continue to adopt, evaluate, and update policies consistent with the law and the district's strategic plan.

I am a strong advocate for class size reduction and believe that students perform best in an intimate setting.

Please allow me to continue to serve you and the children of Little Lake City School District. On November 4th, please mark your ballot for me, Richard Martinez!
