Candidate for Board Member; Southern Kern Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
All of us, even those of us without children, want the very best from our public schools. In these days of limited funding from the state and federal tax dollars. We must insure that spending will be geared for every student to have a quality education. Quality education comes from quality teachers, support staff and having up to date facilities to insure the proper arena for education. Uncertain times as we have here in California have and continues to have a fiscal impact on our schools. This is not a time to cut all programs, but a time to evaluate the programs that do succeed. We must find the best balance between what we want to provide and what we can afford as a district. I will except this challenge and do my very best to insure a quality education for all students in Southern Kern Unified Schools. As a board member I will insist that;

  • That the schools are run properly and the money is spent wisely.

  • Attract and retain quality faculty such as teachers, support staff and the maintenance person who fixes roof leaks in the middle of a downpour. We must ensure that faculty has the tools to promote education and let them do the jobs they're paid for.

  • Insist that administration be held accountable for policies and procedures.

  • Ensure that our schools are safe for all children, staff and the general public.

  • Be an advocate for our children and families.

I don't present myself as an expert on any of these issues. I don't have a grand vision. What I do want to do is hear all sides and bring common sense to bear, to help make the hard choices the Board sometimes has to make. I look at any public office as a place of honor, and I would be honored if you would give me your vote to serve on your school board.
