I was born and grew up in Los Angeles and considered
transferring from Los Angeles City College to HSU to major in
Wildlife Management, but decided to stay in Los Angeles to pursue
a business major at Los Angeles State College. As a youth, I was
an active member in the Sierra Club, hiked to the summit of Mount
Whitney twice, and was an active member of the Audubon Society
and participated in numerous Christmas counts. After decades of
spending vacations on the North Coast, my wife, Penny, and I
finally moved from Glendale to McKinleyville over 10 years ago
after working for insurance companies in the Los Angeles and San
Diego areas as Claims Manager and Director of Internal Audit. I
became licensed as an Independent Insurance Adjuster and as a
Private Investigator and established my business, investigating
insurance claims. Shortly after arriving in Humboldt County I
volunteered to serve on the Humboldt County Grand Jury, and
more recently my wife and I served on the 2002/2003 Humboldt
County Grand Jury. I have been a long time member of the
Humboldt County Taxpayer's League and currently serve as a
Director. I am a member of Arcata Post 274 of the American
Legion, having served in the Marine Corps and I am currently the
Finance Officer. For many years I have regularly attended Harbor
District meetings, reviewed board packets and financial reports. I
have attended the Citizens for Port Development meetings for
years and attend the Humboldt Bay Stewards meetings.
