The State of California Must Stimulate Jobs and Stop Tuition Increases.PRESS RELEASE Attention: Newsroom Political Reporter August 15, 2003 # FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LINGEL H. WINTERS, a San Francisco attorney today announced his candidacy for Governor of the State of California and has been certified as an official candidate on the ballot for the October 7 Recall Election. Winters stresses JOBS and EDUCATION as Job #1. With a "jobless" recovery as a prospect, the hard working people of California are greatly suffering and need a helping hand.
Winters would 1) create tax incentives for adding jobs in California and 2) require state contractors to demonstrate their creation of California jobs.
Winters opposes the 25% tuition hikes for UC and CSU as unfairly dashing the dreams of our students and their families by singling them out to pay for the Enron/energy deregulation debacle. Winters is a firm believer in fair, fiscal responsibility.
Winters stated that he is seeking the office of Governor as a career citizen, not as a career Politician. He is a life-long Democrat, who is united with other Democrats in opposing the Recall, but seeks the votes of all Californians. He has practiced law in the Bay Area for over 35 years representing consumers to enforce their rights and as a corporate manager and senior lawyer for major Bay area businesses such as National Semiconductor. He is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law and Yale University. He and his wife have three grown daughters, each of whom graduated from California universities.
