GEORGE A. BURGESS
Education and Qualifications: Now, more than ever, local governments need qualified leaders. Complex budgeting and keeping taxes low while costs of services are rising, takes financial expertise and a proven financial track record. Establishing and improving programs to enhance our community calls for representatives who will commit the time and energy to work hard for their constituents and who are open to new methods and ideas. Guaranteeing that residential neighborhoods remain clean and safe and local businesses prosper while delivering state-of-the-art essential services, calls for strong, experienced leadership. I have the qualifications and dedication to accomplish these tasks. I am a native Californian and graduate of Columbia University. I directed a worldwide department for KPMG in addition to managing improvement projects for city, county, state and federal entities and have owned several successful businesses. I received national recognition by being appointed to the Publications Committee of the American Accounting Association. I have worked to strengthen my community as Treasurer of the nationally acclaimed Rehabilitation Institute (arthritic, stroke and spinal cord injury patients); helping oversee the YMCA Human Development Center for battered women and now as a current member of the Belmont Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. I have a vested interest in Belmont. My wife Patricia and I own our home here and our daughter, her husband and three children are Belmont residents. Like you, I want a safe, clean, prosperous community that offers all residents a high quality of life for this generation and future generations. I recently had the privilege of talking with many of you about city government and reading your answers to my citywide survey. I carefully considered your ideas and concerns and incorporated them into my own vision for Belmont's future. These plans, based on mutual cooperation on the council, will form a strong platform for my first term of office. The plans include:
Supporting the 12 citywide priorities established by the current council.
I will not hesitate to voice your concerns to municipal government and put my professional leadership experience to work for the benefit of all Belmont residents. I would appreciate your support and vote in the upcoming June 3, 2003 election. /s/ George A. Burgess |
