Burgess' Vision

By George A. Burgess

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Belmont

This information is provided by the candidate
As a council member, I will continue to walk the neighborhoods to verify the overall interest in what you have told me in the past and what you will be telling me in the future.
My Vision is to have Belmont:

Increase its economic value by

  • Ensuring that its existing businesses flourish
  • Attracting new companies to fill our office space
  • Creating an atmosphere to attract new sales tax generating businesses.

Work harmoniously with Notre Dame de Namur University
and all of our superb educational entities in the city.

Designate a site and promote an Arts Museum and Performing
Arts facility.

Create a city-wide feeling that each neighborhood is
distinct with its own beauty, challenges and
representation.

Preserve our open spaces, such as San Juan Canyon and Water Dog Lake, while at the same time protecting the rights of private property owners.

As a council member, as I said above, I will continue to walk the neighborhoods to verify the overall interest in suggestions I have previously made to the council. They include:

  • Appointing a Senior Citizen Advocate
  • Creating a Teen Commission
  • Creating a Volunteer Commission
  • Appointing a Community Development/Economic Development Leader to pursue federal, state, and Corporate funding to help put Belmont on national and international maps of the latest knowledge based technology.
  • Ensuring that our schools provide arts and music education in all grades, to develop the creative and intellectual capacity of our youth.
