We have a public safety crisis in Los Angeles and particularly in the San Fernando Valley. Crime is up and arrests are down. Our police are outgunned and out manned in the field by gangs and we are increasingly concerned about violence on our school campuses. We must act swiftly to address this problem and also develop long-term strategies and programs to end the cycle of violence. As your voice in the City Council, I will fight to add more police and paramedics, improve emergency response time in our district and keep kids in school and away from drugs and gangs.

As your councilmember, I will:

• Fight to add 1,500 new police officers for the City of Los Angeles

• Fully re-instate and expand the Senior Lead Officer Program

• Provide new incentives to recruit ex-LAPD officers back to the Department

• Provide a substation in Sunland-Tujunga

• Add more traffic enforcement officers to control speeding in our canyons and major roads

• Provide incentives to help LAPD officers live and buy homes in the neighborhoods they serve.

• Hold LAPD leadership accountable for the recruitment, retention of officers and crime reduction

• Fully fund and support increased neighborhood watch programs

• Upgrade and expand our 911 emergency and paramedic service to dramatically reduce response time

• Add at least one new firefighter to each truck company
