Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Warren T. Furutani

Candidate for
Member of the Board of Trustees; Los Angeles Community College District; Office 7

This information is provided by the candidate

I believe community colleges are the best education deal in town and provide the State of California with the "best bang" for it's educational buck.

Community colleges are a critical part of the public education continuum. With more overcrowding at the UC and CSU levels and with a "tridal wave" of college age students entering the system, community colleges are needed more than ever.

Also, they are the gateway to higher education for students who are minorities, new immigrants, women who want to re-engage their education after raising the children, people who want training and retraining for jobs and careers, and for those who believe in life long education.

Community colleges are the "people's college".

They should not be relegated to second class or "junior" staus in the higher education system. There are more students in the State's community colleges than there are in the UC and CSU systems combined. Community college's are the "blue collar" institution in a white collar higher education world. Community colleges are the engine that drives the whole post secondary system and should be funded at the level the systems deserves.
