"Building a Better School District"I am the only candidate that can work effectively with city leaders and staff, to help foster better communications between the city and the school district. Having been a member of the Chamber, I know and fully understand the partnership that is necessary between good schools and a thriving business community. I think you would all agree that successful communities rely on three things for long- term survival -- schools, crime prevention and business, All three are linked. Without safe neighborhoods, businesses decide to leave. Without good schools, businesses owners decide to make their homes elsewhere. And a community without a thriving business community often has high crime rates and poor schools. We all have a stake in insuring that our community is the very best that it can be. With my educational experience, my solid professional background in municipal finance, and urban planning , I will work to eliminate wasteful spending and ensure that our children and classrooms get the highest priority as resources are allocated. Parents need to have peace of mind when they leave their children at our schools. I will fight to ensure that our schools will remain free from violence and gangs. School districts are finding it harder to keep first rate teachers in our classrooms due to competition from other school districts as well as less stressful better paying jobs. Our children deserve the best teachers. I am committed to keeping our good teachers and maintain the highest level of education for our students.
