Living Wage: The Great Economic EqualizerBy Donna J. WarrenCandidate for Lieutenant Governor; State of California | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Reports show: Living Wage laws help families, don't hurt businessThe 1990s were very prosperous - for America's CEOs. In addition to their 571% pay hike (even if their company had bad accounting practices), they continue to receive multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses while laying off thousands of employees. Unless you saw a 571% increase in your salary last decade, it's your turn to share the wealth. THE LIVING WAGE can bridge the wealth gap. That's why labor unions and hard-working Americans support it. A recent Public Policy Institute of California study confirms that Living Wage laws work. The March 2002 report found the poverty dropped as much as 1.5% in 36 cities with Living Wage ordinances. I will establish an $11 an hour Living Wage my first year in office and tie the wage to real cost-of-living increases. |
