JACKIE SPEIER

Occupation: State Senator

Education and Qualifications: It has been a privilege to serve you for nearly 20 years on the Board of Supervisors, in the State Assembly, and now in the State Senate. Working on your behalf, I have: 1) Established a first in the nation discount prescription drug program for California seniors, saving seniors on average 25% on the top 100 drugs; 2) Chaired Senate Insurance Committee hearings leading to the resignation of Insurance Commissioner Quackenbush; 3) Fought to protect your financial privacy; 4) Mandated proof of auto insurance for drivers, lowering insurance premiums; 5) Allowed consumers to get free state inspections that identified fraudulent auto body repairs; 6) Required health insurers to cover costs of cancer patients participating in clinical drug trials and contraceptives for women, and secured $20 million in public funding for low-income women without insurance to receive treatment for breast cancer; 7) Fought to extend health insurance to all California children; 8) Obtained state funding for the County's homeless shelter, $127 million to establish "Baby Bullet" Caltrain service to cut the commute in half between San Francisco and San Jose, and funding for the Pacifica police station.

I will continue the fight to protect the financial privacy of all Californians from invasions by marketers and identity thieves, and to get the Hetch Hetchy water system fixed in order to avoid a prolonged and devastating loss of water after a major earthquake. I respectfully request your vote so that we may continue to work together on behalf of San Mateo County's and California's future.
