The Economy and Business

By Vincent F. "Vince" House

Candidate for State Senator; District 24

Vinces position on the deficit spending and the loss of business and jobs
Vince House, the Republican candidate for election to the 24th State Senate District. Vince is not a career politician. He has been active in Republican organizations most of his life. A businessman, since 1964, founding and operating two successful California corporations, serving the Beverage and Food Service industries. He is well aware of the excessive and burdensome taxes, fees, regulations and environmental controls that are continuing to drive business from California. Those left behind are being even more burdened as California continues to lose its economic base to other states more friendly to business. California is the seventh largest economy in the world. Los Angeles is the twelfth largest world economy. California is rich with natural resources, and major industries such as aircraft, computer, fisheries, agriculture, mining, lumber and many others, manned by hard working dedicated Californians. With all that we have, California is falling behind and losing ground in the economic recovery. Prior to the election of the present administration, California enjoyed a $7.6 billion surplus, low unemployment and an expanding economy. Tax rates were being lowered. Less than four years later the state is spending one million per hour more than it is taking in. At the end of this fiscal year the deficit will reach $10.4 billion having gobbled up the entire surplus and eating a $12.4 billion hole in next years budget. The state of California today, is living proof, of the gross mismanagement and fiscal irresponsibility of the of the present legislature and the dismal tax and spend leadership of the present administration The uncontrolled spending and expansion of government at a rate 13% faster than the growth of population, is the legacy of the present administration. Now is the time to change the direction and leadership. Elect conservative Republicans and begin the reconstruction of our economy and a return to prosperity. The present plan to reduce the deficit is to raise taxes, all kinds of taxes, this same tactic failed to save the sinking economy in the 70's and again in 1991 when the same conditions of overspending existed as now. Increasing the top marginal tax by 14% will only succeed in driving more businesses from California. The additional tax being added to the general population in the form of vehicle taxes, gasoline taxes and virtually anything they can find to tax ,will only deepen the recession. When will politicians learn that increasing taxes causes a decline in the economy and ends up producing less taxes. California taxes are already among the highest in the nation. The tax increases, along with the cost of energy at an all time high, will result in higher consumer prices, lower wages and a loss of even more business as they exit California. The state has already lost over one and a half million jobs since in the last two years. How many more jobs need be lost?

The answer is clear. Stop spending $1 million dollars per hour more than is coming in. Every responsible individual, knows that spending more than earnings is the road to bankruptcy. In retrospect it is a violation of the Constitution of the State of California. As your Senator, I will work to cut spending, balance the budget and reduce the already excessive taxation of Californians. We deserve better In the last few weeks we have seen large cuts in health and welfare programs. These programs are heavily utilized by illegal aliens that have flooded across our open borders. The cost of education, medical services and social services to care for the enormous number of illegal, is a significant portion of the out of control spending in this state. Illegal immigration places an impossible strain on our economy. California is not able to sustain the costs related to the outrageous unlimited influx of persons seeking a better life, and in the process are destroying our economy and our way of life. Immigration must be at a controlled pace. To legally enter this country one is required to have a sponsor to, guarantee that the immigrant will not become a burden to the state. Illegal aliens, that cross our borders are bankrupting this State. The closure of the health clinic are a harbinger of more reductions to come. It is outrageous that an illegal alien, receives free medical, dental, and other services that are not available to the citizens of this state. What will it take for our incumbent legislators to open their eyes to the fact that they are selling out our state for votes?. There is no greater sanctimony than to trade ones integrity and honor for personal gain.
