JO CHAMBERLAIN Age: 53

Occupation: Businesswoman/Educator

Education and Qualifications: As your assemblywoman, my first priority will be campaign finance and electoral reform, including public financing of campaigns and instant runoff voting. We need to reduce the corrupting influence of campaign contributions in our government, so that we can freely and fairly address the critical issues of adequate education funding, universal health care, a living wage and affordable housing.

My 22 years of business experience have taught me to use resources efficiently. My experience in teaching and curriculum development has prepared me for good communication with constituents and co-legislators. My education (BS, biology, UC Santa Cruz) and experience in biology and environmental science give me a clear understanding of the need for legislative action for renewable energy, high-speed rail, endangered species protection, humane treatment of animals and protection of San Francisco Bay, San Bruno Mountain, and our coastside and open space.

Rather than shortsightedly build more fossil-fuel-fired power plants, we should encourage conservation and renewable energy. Rather than paving over our cities, we should make public transit a statewide priority.

I advocate reform of three strikes, a moratorium on the death penalty, and protection of a woman's right to choose.

I am endorsed by elected officials, community activists and citizens who want government to serve the people, not corporations or PACs. A list of my endorsers can be found on my website.

I ask for your vote. Together, let's make a difference, and put the voice of the voter back in Sacramento.
