I want the best education possible for our Fort Ross
students.
My life has been built around helping young people
prepare themselves for their adult world. I was born
and raised in my parents boarding school at Stillwater
Cove on the Sonoma County coast. After graduation
from UC Davis I helped my parents with teaching. I then
moved to Sebastopol and taught at Twin Hills School. I
moved to Davis and was supported by the National
Institutes of Health for a PhD. I went to England on a
Post Doctoral fellowship where I worked on the
physiology of migrating salmon. I was hired from there
to run the University of Oregon's marine biolgy institute
located at the mouth of the Coos Bay estuary. While
there, I built a strong undergraduate teaching program.
This institute had an interdisciplinary slant involving
many different departments, with a special focus on
land use. I was a County planning commissioner for
many years before being appointed by Governor Tom
McCall to Oregon new land commission that put
together the beginnings of Oregon's land use
regulations. While at the University I taught, studied
marine life, hired teachers, and kept track of several
budgets.
I believe this background will make me an effective
school board member.
