Smart Voter Official Statement for Mickie Winkler

Candidate for
City Council; City of Menlo Park

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

MICKIE WINKLER Age: 64

Occupation: Retired Marketing Executive

Education and Qualifications:

I am running with Nicholas Jellins and Lee Duboc to create a new kind of City Council in Menlo Park -- a City Council which will:

• Facilitate, not hinder, traffic flow and parking throughout the entire city. Sand Hill Road should have been fixed long ago to get cut-through traffic off our neighborhood streets.

• Encourage, not discourage, sensible home improvements by supporting a fair, and hassle-free residential zoning ordinance--one that restricts out-of-scale housing and allows neighborhoods to express their uniqueness.

• Support, not ignore or even damage, local businesses. Local businesses provide the tax base that allows us to fully staff our police department, funds our beloved library, senior and child services, and all city functions.

• Put the interests of Menlo Park first. Menlo Park is a city of distinct neighborhoods and neighborhoods should be consulted. Narrowly focused special-interest groups should not be setting the agenda for the entire town.

I am for a new kind of Council, that has open ears, not a closed mind.

Please vote for me, Mickie Winkler, a commissioner and long-time resident, and for my peers, City Councilman Jellins and Commissioner Duboc.
