QUOTES & LETTERS OF SUPPORT

Submitted to the HMB Review as a Letter to the Editor-

"As Members of the faculty and staff of Cunha Intermediate School, we wish to make public our endorsement of Jolanda Schreurs.

We know Jolanda as a parent, as an active member of the Cunha PTA and Site Council, and as a community member who was instrumental in organizing the Band-Aid project to protect vital programs nearly lost at Cunha due to budget shortfalls.

Jolanda is intelligent, energetic, and is well acquainted with the issues related to education on the Coastside. She is knowledgeable about curriculum issues, staff development, school finance, as well as the role of parents and the community at-large in operating our local schools.

The faculty and staff who have signed below feel confident that Jolanda Schreurs would be a most positive addition to the school board and someone with whom we all could work.

Schreurs has experience the school board needs

Dear editor:

Jolanda Schreurs is an exceptional candidate for the Cabrillo Unified School District school board. We wholeheartedly support her.

A longtime Coastside resident and a prominent voice in public schools for over seven years, Jolanda has shown forthright leadership, continuous commitment and thoughtful action in her efforts to bring excellence to local public education. During her two-year tenure as PTA president at Farallone View, Jolanda gained respect from parents, teachers and staff for her inspired, results-oriented leadership.

She promoted academic results and goals on behalf of parents at PTA meetings, Site Council meetings, and at many district-wide opportunities. As a Site Council member at Cunha School, Jolanda led the effort to put into service a broader academic science program and worked with teachers on site plans and goals.

At the district level, Jolanda has co-chaired several ballot measures to bring more funding to schools to pay for teachers, literacy programs, counselors and school building improvements. After the defeat of Measure C in 2001, Jolanda spearheaded Operation Band Aid, which has brought in more than $325,000 in voluntary contributions to fund school programs.

Jolanda supports improving student achievement, wise use of our limited resources, active parent involvement and increasing teacher resources.

She will listen and respond.

Liz Murphy
