The BudgetBy Jonathan LundellCandidate for Board Member; Cabrillo Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Long-Range PlanningSince the mid-90s, our district revenue has been increasing steadily, while enrollment has been slowly dropping. Thanks to low inflation, most of the gains have been real. Even with the downturn in the economy and the state budget shortfall, since 2000 we've received more dollars per student than ever before. We all know from experience that no party lasts forever. We can plan further ahead, with multiyear budgets, limiting our long- term spending commit-ments to levels we know we can afford. We must anticipate downturns to avoid crippling reductions in critical educational and support programs. |
