Public Trust

The position of "Trustee" is what a Cabrillo School Board member is. This means board members have certain duties to the public. These duties include managing the money for the benefit of the public, making decisions that are in the best interest of the public, especially the students of the district. It also means the board must follow the laws of California, including the government code. I will ensure that all these duties are met. In addition, I will work toward coastside schools offering excellence in public education and equality for all students.

Transportation

Transportation needs to be restored, there is no question about that. The recent budget cuts should never have included excluding students from school by terminating transportation. The board's action of ceasing transportation was done with no consideration for the students that will not be able to get to school. The district has a duty to educate all students, not just the ones that can find other means to get to school.

Budget Crisis

The budget will most likely be over 24 million for the upcoming school year. There are approximately 3,700 students in the district. Two years ago the district spent over $17,000 for plans for a Performing Arts Center, while schools ran out of pencils and paper. The district also spent over $35,000 on their lawyers to fight a claim made under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act, only to lose on seven separate issues. Is this wise spending? These are examples of waste that can and should be eliminated.
