Deep Concern of Today's Public Schools

By Jennifer Schroeder

Candidate for Governing Board Member; San Luis Coastal Unified School District; Trustee Area 2

This information is provided by the candidate
Public school today is alarming. Children are asked to get on their hands and knees and pray to Allah, textbooks ask children to assume they are Muslim soldiers. Education "troops", paid for by the district, invited children to join them on stage and dance to African gods. American policies, Christianity and Judaism are criticized and scorned. Libraries are stripped of all Christian literature while pagan practices and sorcery are enhanced. The double standard is obvious. An English teacher read his student's "auras" with claims of clairvoyance, and when a parent complained there is no apology nor admonishment for the teacher. Evolution is taught as fact without scientific evidence. Homosexuality is taught in sex education which is not mandated by the state as claimed.

So many parents are offended that homeschooling is skyrocketing and pressure mounts for the voucher system. Rather than respond by restructuring the curriculum, California responds with an attempt to force children back from homeschooling.

Meanwhile, test scores nationwide are embarrassing. Time is wasted teaching children philosophy and criticizing their religion, rather than the basics. In an effort to raise the standards, schools have instructed teachers to (i.e.) skip the 8th grade math and teach them 9th. Homework increases, placing the burden on parents to teach children who have just finished six hours of, what should be, instruction. The President talks of teaching children beginning in pre-school when all we really need is to focus on the BASICS and cut out all the special interest groups agendas, which take up so much valuable time in class.
