A Fresh Perspective on Budget BalancingBy Daniel F. "Dan" WellsCandidate for Board Member; Jefferson School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Rather than discontinuation of academic programs in the face of budget shortfalls, acquire public & private grants to fill in the gaps. Thus far, the approach has been to wait for what is handed to the district from state and federal taxation. When that doesn't cover the costs, programs are sacrificed, and those paying the price are the children. We must not sacrifice the children's future before pulling out all of the stops. We must invest in the acquisition of grant funding to make up any shortfalls. We can do so by borrowing interest earned on surplus facilities funds and hire grant consultants trained in finding and acquiring monies offered by public and private programs and philanthropists. |
