SANNELLA CALLS FOR SHERIFF "STORE-FRONTS"

San Marcos Mayoral candidate Michael Sannella today announced a proposal to open at least two Sheriff's store-front offices in the city if he is elected mayor.

"As San Marcos grows, it is the duty of city government to responsibly expand public safety services," said Sannella. "Law enforcement store-fronts have been successful in fostering a partnership with the community to prevent crime and increase visibility," he said.

"San Marcos has the greatest Sheriff's deputies in the county," said Sannella. He called them professional in their duties and said that they were respected and trusted by the community.

Sannella said that the store-fronts would help deter crime and would give deputies a place to write reports and interact with the community. Last week, Sannella spoke with Ron Cottingham of the Deputy Sheriffs Association about store-fronts and Cottingham noted their success and said that store-fronts could be utilized by both deputies and the department's volunteer patrol.

Sannella said that possible locations for store-fronts in the city would include Rancho Santa Fe Road near Alvin Dunn Elementary or on Mission Road near San Marcos Middle School. He also said that he would explore the possibility for a future Sheriff's store-front office in the San Elijo Hills neighborhood town center.
