Smart Voter Political Philosophy for John Hoffman

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Oceanside

This information is provided by the candidate

Key issues that face our city all stem from one central issue and that is a lack of funds. Sound and well-planned economic development is the key to accomplishing all other goals, (reduce traffic congestion, improve and develop new parks, enhance public safety and provide senior and youth services). They all hinge on our City's capability to pay for them. The incumbents will tell you that during their 8 years in office, the city budget has nearly doubled. But what they neglect to tell you is that we spend less per capita on almost every city service compared to other cities within the county. In other words we spend less for libraries, parks police, and fire. You have to ask yourself why? The answer is simple, this city council and councils before them have gone out of their way to discourage businesses to come to town. Next year per our own city economic forecasts Oceanside's expenditures will be greater than our revenues. What does this mean? It means city services will be cut, and city employees may loose their jobs. It means our current City Council has not done their job!
