Why I am running and initiatives I will supportWHY I AM RUNNING 1. A Hospital Board requires a variety of expertise to function effectively. -My financial management, information systems and risk management experience will significantly broaden the knowledge base of the Board. This knowledge is needed now more than ever. Expanding services and mandated earthquake retrofitting are examples of issues that the district faces that have significant financial implications. 2. I am concerned about health care in our community, in California and in our country. -As the population ages, health care is becoming increasingly more important. What we learn now and what we can teach others will have a significant impact on how health care is provided in the future. Every person, every tax payer, every voter, is a stakeholder in the health care industry.
3. I want the next CEO to be a success and I want to do my part to help make the Palomar Pomerado Health District a shining example of how health care can and should be provided. AS A BOARD MEMBER, I WILL SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING INITIATIVES 1. I want to maximize the number of people who can benefit from the services offered by the Hospital district. - Quality health care goes beyond quality services. It is also about reaching out to those in need. Healthy people make a healthy community. Finding ways to reach as many as possible with education and preventative care is good for the community and saves money. 2. I will be committed to improving the working conditions for doctors and nurses. -Hiring the best doctors and nurses is only half the job. To truly provide quality health care, doctors and nurses must have reasonable work loads, competitive pay, and full support of the administration. 3. I will support initiatives that will expand services into the Ramona/Julian areas. -Ramona and Julian are rapidly becoming more than just outskirt regions. Housing development has drawn many people into those areas and the need for services is becoming increasingly more important. 4. I am committed to keeping the emergency rooms open. -Problems involving workloads in the ER or patient's ability to pay can and should be addressed. Closing the ER is not the answer to either of these issues. 5. I support community outreach programs, wellness programs and other initiatives that broaden service coverage and minimize the use of Emergency Rooms as the health care of last resort. -It makes economic sense to spend a few dollars up front to save many dollars down the road. Wellness programs and preventative care initiatives save money. 6. I will support initiatives that utilize the latest proven technological advances to provide better, more cost effective health care. -High technology, while being only a part of how quality health care is delivered can save money and improve working conditions for doctors and nurses. 7. Finally, I will support and encourage effective team work among all stakeholders in the district. -No hidden agendas. -Only Palomar Pomerado Health District's Mission, Vision and Core Values will guide my decisions. |
