I was born in Neenah, Wisconsin and moved to Waukegan, Ill.
When I graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1965, I was hired by LUSD to teach reading at Vandenberg Junior High. I married, had a daughter and divorced. My daughter Anne Marie now resides in Georgia with her husband Tim. I started teaching at Cabrillo High School in 1969. There I started an Independent Reading class and a specialized reading lab. I transfered to Lompoc Valley Middle School just as it changed its focus from a junior high. I taught a sixth-grade core of history, reading and Englisn. Eight years later I returned to Cabrillo to teach English and work as advisor of the yearbook. Before my retirement in June 2001, I initiated an ESL program and became a site mentor for new teachers, as well as worked on many committees. I also worked part time for Allan Hancock. Currently I am training teachers at Chapman University specializing in the CLAD program, which covers methods to help language learners take academic subjects in English.
