I've lived in Santa Maria since 1959, and graduated from the same Santa Maria Joint Union High School District under better conditions than students are experiencing today. During my years as a young woman, I worked two jobs and raised two children alone. During those years of tremendous struggle I acquired the work ethic I have today which has played a significant role as the founder and owner of a successful company in Santa Maria . Now that I am now Grandmother of three, I believe that I could give back nothing better to the community than to become part of a reform-minded school board that takes nothing for granted, asks questions of the school leaders, and demands accountability from the school system. If you believe that students should not be forced into crowded classrooms with more than 30 students, if you believe that teachers need to be given a voice in the decision making process of the high schools that they serve in, and if you believe that the district office spending needs to be reduced and given directly to the classrooms, then you believe exactly as I do, because those are the issues I will work to change. You can help me to help those students. I respectfully ask for your vote for Governing Board Member of the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District on November 5, 2002. |
