GOLDEN MOMENTBy Kelly Michael KilroyCandidate for City Council Member; City of Guadalupe | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My dream and golden moment will be sitting on the City Council as a Councilman. It would be the first time a person with disabilities would be a part of the City Council in GuadalupeI would like to try and help the kids get more recreational facilities such as a skating rink, swimming pool, miniature golf course, or paintball area here in Guadalupe, so they don't have to go to Santa Maria or other towns for their entertainment. These are things I have been asked to lobby for from the kids. I feel and have been told that I have a lot of good qualities such as being honest and forthright. I am known as a team player and would work hard for the people here in town, because I am sensitive to their needs. I would never be dragged into saying anything negative about people. Everyone has their good points and if they make comments about me being disabled, I would just brush it off because they would probably be having just a bad hair day. I wouldn't be afraid to ask for help from people who are interested in also making a difference here in Guadalupe. Kids need to be heard also. They are the future and have rights. A lot of them haven't registered to vote because their families don't vote. While I campaigned I handed out voter registration forms to be filled out by some of the kids, so now they are registered voters. A lot of them felt their ideas and views on different things didn't matter. I assured them it did matter. I also told them to have their families register to vote also. Everyone needs to be heard. I will leave the other political issues to the other council members to handle. I think my job helping the kids will be enough work for me. And I always go back to my Special Olympic motto: "Let me win but if I can't win, let me be brave in the attempt". |
