I did not interview with any group seeking to endorse candidates in our election.

  • I did speak to one newspaper that asked me to. I don't expect their endorsment though.

After spending close to four years on the council, and working above and beyond to meet different needs of every group that asked for help, I think it's kind of sad that these groups would endorse other candidates, and work to kick me out of office for no good reason. If I had been a jerk, or treated a group improperly, I'd expect it. But not when you did all you could to help them. There is something wrong with the picture here.

Even though I didn't seek nor want endorsments, it is hard when I see ads or support from people I considered friends, given to others running. I don't care about an endorsement, it's the support of the person the I appreciate. I have worked so hard for, and taken heat from other council members for trying to establish or re-establish a good working relationship, then see them working for candidates that haven't been tested by fire yet.

  • Makes a person wonder what they expect from a council member?

It does prove what I have always believed - groups that offer endorsements are not looking for the most qualified, they are looking for someone that will jump when they say jump.
  • I jump, but only if I think it is the right thing to do.

This is why I do not solicit endorsements in a small town.
  • With Nine people running, only three can win, six are disappointed.
  • And their friends and supporters are upset, and on and on.

Even if you win, if you weren't supported it is hard to overlook the fact. It took me awhile after the 1998 election to forgive, and I was the only one that did.

To much bitterness after the election. It isn't worth it. Non profit and public service organizations should keep the name of their group out of the campaign, and let individual members work for anyone they choose to support. Even if their candidates win, others will make claims that hurt the organizations.

How soon we forget the aftermath of November 1998. The blood bath that followed was ugly and painful, and some people are not over it four years later. But, the groups are at it, and we'll see what comes of it. even if they knock me out, I have learned one thing if nothing else:

  • You never know what a person is going to be like until after they are in office. The best person can be a terrible council member, and a not so popular person can be the best. You don't know.
  • I found out the hard way, that even when you vote for and help elect a person, they can turn on you in a second.

  • Yep! I found that out the hard way. And I may end up paying a higher price for that mistake than I ever would have imagined.

I hope History does not repeat itself. It was ugly. It still is ugly. And we will wait and see if,
  • History does repeat itself, again!

  • Endorsements? Not For Me!
