Cox for EGUSD Board of Education COX CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE ID #1245621 8595 CHERRINGTON LANE, ELK GROVE, CA 95624 smartvoter.org/vote/priscilla_cox Priscilla Cox and her husband, Ryan, moved to Elk Grove in 1985 to raise their two young daughters, Lindsey and Corey, in a community which promotes family values. Priscilla had taught middle and high school math and science for ten years and coached high school volleyball and swimming. After moving, she took on a new role as parent volunteer in the schools. She was active in Pleasant Grove, Kerr, and Elk Grove High PTA serving as President, Parliamentarian, Volunteer Coordinator and chair of numerous committees. She also was active in Elk Grove Swim Team, Sheldon 4-H, Sheldon Community Committee Crabfeed, Girl Scouts, Volleyball, Basketball and Track Boosters, and First Baptist Church. She volunteer taught Pre-Algebra to sixth graders as a pilot for three years, a program which is now district-wide. She was elected to the School Board in 1994 and served as President and Clerk and led a successful bond campaign to finance building and maintaining schools. She became involved with the California School Boards Association and served on the Charter School Task Force, is a delegate representing the 6th region, gave numerous workshops at state conferences and is currently serving as Chairperson of the Annual Conference in San Francisco. She was selected to represent California in Washington D.C. as a member of the Federal Issues Council. She was appointed to the California Civic Mission of American Education to renew values of democracy and character education in the school curriculum. She has testified before the Assembly Committee on Education to balance the math curriculum with strong basic skills. She is on the state community review panel to oversee appropriateness of test questions on the high school exit exam and Golden State exams. She is serving on the state committee to review science textbooks for adoption. She was a charter member of the district Teen Pregnancy Prevention task force and has served as a mentor and volunteer in reading labs and English Language Learner classes. Visiting schools and talking with students, teachers, and parents is a highlight for her. Accomplishments as a Board member include dramatically increasing the college going rate, expanding opportunities for parent involvement, reducing class size, building new schools, offering support to academies and improving test scores.
