A positive organizational climate is one key to the success of students. When employee/employer relationships are positive the organization breeds motivation, creativity, and more overall success. My desire would be that the collective bargaining process is fair and constructive, and that interests can be openly discussed and appreciated. The resulting agreements should be realistic, and in keeping with the greater goal of providing education and opportunities for success to our children. Additionally, plotting district vision and strategy should not be isolated to board members and school administration, as parents and guardians have opinions in the education of their children. The public also needs to be better educated about school district efforts, budgets and impacts. Better communication is the link to achieving these objectives. Parents already have a direct say by joining school site councils, however on a broader scale, I advocate offering various methods of outreach to communicate and capture ideals from the community. Such outreach includes family forums, technology outreach, district newsletters, suggestion boxes, local television, and home visitations. Good communication ensures accountability to the public, and provides information that can be used to monitor and adjust the district's program. |
