Can we afford to fall back ?Prior to my election four years ago, water rates had increased 130%. As Western MWD is both a direct water provider in the Woodcrest, Lake Mathews and March ARB communities, and is a wholesale middleman to the Elsinore Valley and Rancho California water districts, and to the cities of Riverside and Corona, I don't believe we can afford to go back to those tax and spend days. When I sought the support of voters four years ago, I made a commitment to hold the line on water rates and spending. I'm proud to report that I have kept my word. When water rate increases are proposed I point to the need to cut spending. When my approval was sought for a $10,000 travel junket and $20,000 a month lobbyist, I stood firmly on the side of protecting your hard earned tax dollars. Each year when we debate placing a water standby tax on property tax bills, I oppose this unfair tax on our customers. I'm partner and president of our family business and have served 24 years in the fire service. I have been a resident of Riverside County for 31 years and have seen how growth has put a strain on our resources. I would be honored to serve again as your Western MWD representative. I ask for your vote. Kevin D. Jeffries |
