Financial errors

By Elizabeth Scott Donnelly

Candidate for Auditor; County of Riverside

This information is provided by the candidate
The newspapers constantly report new errors being made by the auditors office.
Cities being underpaid $18 million dollars, payroll taxes not being withheld or deposited on some employees, W-2's issued with errors.

These are just a few of the recent, costly errors made by the current administration in the auditors office. There is obviously a lack of review procedures in place to catch problems before they "Get out the door".

The error in the W-2 forms was simply a missing digit in the federal ID number and could have been caught by running a test W-2 and looking at it. Instead 20,000 W-2's had to be reprinted and remailed. I wonder how many county programs could have been enhanced with the money wasted on this very avoidable error?

Strict review procedures are a part of my everyday work as they should be for every accountant. Review procedures for every phase of work performed in the auditors office will be implemented as soon as I am elected and assume office.
