Fiscal AccountabilityBy Pam WalkerCandidate for Board Member; Ocean View School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
OVSD is fiscally strong and getting better. The OVSD board of trustees has a policy of leasing closed school sites instead of selling them. Lease income is currently over $1.6 million and will increase to $2.2 million with the development of Rancho View (the oldest school site in the district). By leasing, we keep these valuable sites as assets to the district and ensure space for future growth while providing an income stream for school improvements WITHOUT RAISING LOCAL TAXES! Another aspect of the fiscal accountability of OVSD is the running of an efficient central administrative office so the resouces of the district are directed to the classrooms. OVSD actively seeks grants to support our programs. We were awarded over $2 million in grants last year. The bond rating agency Standard & Poors was so impressed by our fiscal strength that they gave OVSD an A plus rating. A first for a California school district. |
