Full Biography for Tim Shaw

Tim Shaw grew up locally where he was active in sports, church, and the Boy Scouts. Tim earned his eagle scout award when he was 14. He attended La Habra High School and there continued his involvement in sports and focused on his studies. After finishing high school Tim volunteered as a missionary for his church. His assignment was to Chicago, with special emphasis to be given to Hispanic outreach. Tim spent those two years studying Spanish, volunteering in the community, furthering his religious studies, and otherwise building the church and community where he was living. His appreciation for helping others grew. While in Chicago he also saw the challenges faced by a large urban city. After completing his two years as a missionary Tim returned home to southern California and enrolled in school at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC). He took a job as a waiter at night to pay for his schooling. During this time he also pursued his dream of becoming a pilot by taking flight training at Bracket Airport in La Verne. After two years Tim earned his A.S. degree, with scholastic honors, from Mt. SAC. The FAA had also granted him his private pilot license with an instrument rating, so he felt he was on his way in life. While at Mt. SAC Tim learned of a program offered through Southern Illinois University (SIU). SIU flew instructors from Illinois to Mt. SAC to teach on the weekends. In this way, students could receive the same education as if at the main campus in Carbondale, Illinois, all at the convenienct location of the Mt. SAC campus. Having school all day on the weekends also allowed students to pursue other activities during the week. Tim took advantage of the schedule by securing a position with United States Congressman Dana Rohrabacher. Congressman Rohrabacher and his staff were eager to help Tim learn about government. Interestingly, Tim's major project while with the Congressman's office was in helping prepare terrorism seminars, to be attended by police, fire, Red Cross, and other agencies. This was all prior to September 11th, 2001, when the rest of America realized the threat of terrorism. Congressman Rohrabacher's staff had been anxiously engaged in terrorism response for years. When Tim completed his B.S. degree from SIU he decided to make practical use of his education and seek full-time employment. He secured a position at Tait & Associates, Inc. a professional engineering and architectural firm. With this new job he had to leave his post with Congressman Rohrabacher's office, but that was not the end of his political education. The President of Tait & Associates, Tom Tait, serves as a councilman for the city of Anaheim. Tom Tait has been an excellent teacher for Tim on the workings of city government. Tom Tait was the first to endorse Tim Shaw for La Habra City Council. Tim has remained active with the Boy Scouts, serving as a merit badge counsilor for the aviation, citizenship in the community, citizenship in the nation, and citizenship in the world merit badges. He has been involved in various federal, state, and local politcal campaigns. Tim is the oldest of five children. |
