As Vice President of the Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees and parent of Two District middle school students, I have worked hard to:
- Secure funding to modernize our older schools and build four new schools to alleviate overcrowding. Next year we will open five more new schools to help keep up with our growing district.
- Open the District's 5th high school, Tesoro High School, and planning a 6th High School in the near future.
- Promote the small neighborhood school concept by opening new schools as quickly as money becomes available from the state.
- Instill rigorous academic standards and accountability while aligning the District curriculum with the state standards.
- Emphasize excellence in our schools by developing programs to help our underachieving students pass the Califonia High School Exit Exam.
- Utilize my economic and financial educational background along with my strong business skills, as Vice President of Operations, to ensure that CUSD prudently manages our District's financial resources.
Accomplishments reflecting this hard work include:
- 92% of CUSD schools met or exceeded the 2001 State API target.
- CUSD student SAT scores have gone up over the last three years. This year our students averaged 1114 points, approximately 100 points over the State and National averages.
- 70% of the CUSD graduating class of 2004 have already passed the California High School Exit Exam.
- Our District has taken the lead once again by establishing the "Victory with Honor" program for our coaches, to ensure that our student athletes, coaches and parents practice good sportsmanship and civility in all situations.
- CUSD has one of the highest percentages of students taking and passing The AP(advanced placement) exam to achieve college credit.
I am proud of our 29 California Distinguished Schools and 10 National Blue Ribbon Schools. I pledge to continue working to ensure our students can learn in safe secure schools with high academic standards.
