Experience, Dedication and Leadership History provides him with the skills and abilities to lead Pacific Grove, expecially since there will be four new councilmembers on the City Council.

Morrie was elected to four terms on the PG City Council and elected to two terms as Mayor, serving almost l6 years until he elected not to seek re-election for Mayor in November in l990. In l996 after his retirement from Coast Federal, he elected to run for another term on the council and was elected and was relected again in November 2000.

Morrie has the leadership, dedication and experience to continue to serve the citizens of Pacific Grove as Mayor and will continue to work to preserve our environment, to work at aggressively replace our aging sewe system, to preserve our fiscal integrity, and to insure our unique character of Pacific Grove, and continually monitor outside pressures for development, while always respecting the many divergent opinions and positions of council members and citizens.

During Morrie's term as Mayor he encourage the council to adopt a no-smoking ordinance; he initiated the first 4th of July picnic celebration; the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony; and reinstituted the annual Christmas tree decorating contest in our neighborhoods. He also appointed members of our community to a hike and bike trail committee to develop a trail along the Asilomar Beach area. The DARE program was also initiated during his term as Mayor, which has been a very successful program in our schools, teaching our yhouth about illegal use of drugs. As Mayor he voted not to allow the Dena Dively property to be developed, thus making it possible for the City to purchase and preserve forever this very sensitive butterfly habitat. Most recently, he was instrumental in bring to a successful conclusion the re-configuration of the Monterey Salinas Transit route changes through Pacific Grove, thus reducing the many neighborhood concerns regarding safety, noise and frequency of the bus. He also supported the building of the new city hall and community center; the increase in sewer user fees to repair and improve our aging sewer lines; the purchase of property for a new senior housing complex on Jewell Avenue.

Morrie has the time, the desire, and the proven experience to continue to serve the citizens of Pacific Grove as Mayor. Please return his as Mayor on November 5th, 2002.
