Joe Deering has been rated the highest rating of "well qualified" by the Los Angeles Country Bar Association for his candidiacy of the Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge number 2. Martindale Hubble, the leading evaluator of lawyers in the country, has awarded him its highest "AV" rating and he is listed on the 2002 Bar Regioster of Preeminent Lawyers.

Joe Deering is a third generation Californian and a second generation native of Los Angeles.. He recieved his Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from California State University at Long Beach and his Juris Doctorate degree from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. He has been private practice since 1971.

He is licensed and qualified to practice before the United States Supreme Court and all federal and state courts in California.

During that time, Deering has acted as a Los Angeles Superior Court and Santa Monica Municipal Court Judge Pro Tem, Arbitrator and Mediator. He has completed training in International Arbitration and Mediating International Disputes in a Cross Cultural Setting by the International Center for Arbitration. He is a registered arbitrator in the American Registry of Arbitrators. In 1987, he was President of the Santa Monica Bar Association and later a Trustee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is a member of the Los Angeles Bar Association Elder Law Committee, Southern California Council of Elder Law Attorneys, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, American Bar Association, California State Bar Association, and Los Angeles Consumer Trial Attorneys. He also is a member of the World Jurist Association work for world peace through international law.

In addition, Deering has been involved in community activites including: Kiwanis Club President, Santa Monica Family Service Advisory Committee, Christian Towers Senior Housing, Center for Healthy Aging Technical Advisory Group, Santa Monica High School Alumni Association, Past President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Hastings Alumni Association, Legal Aid Society of Santa Monica Trustee.

During Deering's legal professional career, he has always been involved in legal education as an instructor. After law school, he taught Business Law at California State University at Los Angeles, and later at Loyola Marymount University. In response to requests from some of his students, Deering founded the Paralegal Program at California State University, which is an American Bar Association Program that is still in existence today. He worked in that program as a professor and associate director for more than twenty-five years and awarded a certificate of appreciation for his work from the university and from American Association for Paralegal Education. Currently, Deering is currently teaching law at Emeritus College, which is a program at Santa Monica College for Seniors. He has also taught numerous legal seminars throughout the country for paralegals for the National Legal Assistant Conference Center and has taught for the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys at the Estate Planning Collegium in Orlando, Florida.

In his last thirty years of practice Deering has handled numerous cases in business Law, Personal Injury, Real Estate and Criminal, however presently, Deering's practice is focused on Elder law, doing trust and estate planning for older persons. In addition, he has handled cases for older persons who have been injured as a result of elder abuse and other unsafe conditions for the elderly. He finds these cases to be most rewarding. He wants to be a leader who is compassionate, fair and tough and has a long standing commitment to serve diverse interests in the community.
