An Environment of Learning

By Terry A. Nachtigall

Candidate for Board Member; Wasco Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
School should be a place where students feel stimulated, safe, and pushed to be more than what they thought they were capable of being.
When students attend school there should be an environment there where they feel that the whole staff is there to make their learning experience complete. Academics should be the top priority, but along with academics, sports and the arts should exist. Students must have access to recieving a complete education. A school must have teachers that are educated, trained, and have access to resources to allow them to do their job at the best of their ability. Expectations must be high for our students. But in order to have high expectations for our students we must have high expectations for our teachers, staff, and administrators. One cannot take lightly the responsibility that one has when students are under their guidance. As a board member I feel we have the responsibility to set policy that will create an environment where all this can be achieved. Wasco High School is headed in the right direction, but the job is not done, much improvement is still needed. Test scores must improve, but in order to do this we must have great teachers doing the best they can. In order to achieve this we must give the teachers the resources necessary to get the job done. Technology must be in place that enables but doesn't frustrate. Counselors must not be overworked and given the time to do their job effectively. Many things have been done, but the job is not complete. Allow me to be a part of getting Wasco High where it needs to be so our students can soar.
