Member, City Council; City of Arcata

What kind of community do Arcatans wish to create? Many of us were born locally and have worked in resource extraction industries. Others are students, and some have landed here after wandering to this place of natural beauty and strong community. We all share a commitment to our families, our city, and our land. I have lived on the North Coast for 33 years and hold a BS and teaching credential from HSU. The vision of a prosperous and healthy future for my four grown children and three grandchildren drives my involvement in politics, and makes me realize that government without true democracy threatens the well-being of planet earth.

Together, we must dare to dream and to create a truly green city that consumes less and creates more. Imagine our plaza extending outward with bicycle and pedestrian corridors. Imagine producing our own energy from renewable resources. Imagine a secure and friendly town, where law enforcement maintains safety without prosecuting victimless crimes. Imagine a vibrant economy providing a living wage for all workers.

The city council is our most accessible government. I shall work with interested citizens to develop policies promoting economic and environmental sustainability at home and around the world.
