Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Martinez

As someone who grew up in Martinez, and returned to raise a family, I can say with conviction that I care about Martinez, its citizens, and its future. I have extensive leadership training and experience that I feel makes me uniquely qualified to perform the duties of a city council member. As a fourth generation Martinez resident, I want to preserve the things that make Martinez a great place to live, while working to improve the things that can make Martinez even better. I am a person of integrity who understands public service and won't shy away from the responsibility and privilege of representing the people of Martinez. I ask you for your vote on November 5, 2002.

- I support the revitalization of downtown while preserving the historical character and architecture that is unique to Martinez. I would work with city staff, landlords, and the Main Street Martinez Program to bring in a mixture of national name and small independent businesses that fill unmet needs in the downtown district, but fit into existing building space.

- I support business in Martinez, but oppose the creation of a redevelopment agency in Martinez. I believe the sweeping powers granted to redevelopment agencies coupled with a lack of public oversight of these agencies are not in the best interest of the people of Martinez. Instead, we should work together as a community to determine what we want our town to look like.

- I would work to ensure that routine maintenance and upkeep are carried out on the beautiful parks we are blessed with in Martinez, so all residents are able to enjoy our parks on each and every visit. I also support regular police patrols in our parks to enforce posted rules and deter the few from ruining the park-going experience for every one else.

- I would work to ensure that code enforcement remains a priority of the city. This includes public nuisances such as weed filled property, zoning violations, abandoned vehicles, speeding, and "junk" yards in our residential areas. We who have pride in our city don't have to stand for the acts of those who don't.
