Smart Voter Full Biography for William G. "Bill" GLYNN

Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Pittsburg

William G. GLYNN (Bill) was born on September 20, 1935 and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended public school in the Boston school district until 1949 when his parents moved to the suburban town of Stoneham located twelve miles North of the city. He graduated from Stoneham High School in June of 1953. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy on July 14, 1953 and served with distinction rising through the ranks to Master Chief petty Officer (E9), Chief Warrant Officer (CWO4) and retired from active service on August 1, 1983 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) in the U. S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps. He is a Vietnam veteran and among his many awards are the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Star and Combat "V" plus the Navy Good Conduct Medal with two Stars.

On January 4, 1959, Bill Glynn married the former Diana Josephine Navarro of Stoneham, Massachusetts. They have four children named Dawn Marie, Jacqueline Marie, John Mitchell and Andrea Teresa Glynn. All four children are now married and each of them have one or more children of their own for a total of six grandchildren.

Following his retirement from active Naval service, Bill Glynn worked for more than two years in the educational software industry in Southern California. Subsequently, he began a new career in the public school system in Northern California and served as an Assistant Superintendent for Business Services in a K-8, Multi-Track, Year-Round Public School District. Bill held this position for almost ten years whereupon he retired on May 1, 1996.

Since retiring from the California Public School System, Bill Glynn has been very active in the City of Pittsburg serving on numerous commissions, boards, committees and in various organizations. In February of 2002, Bill Glynn was the recipient of the prestigious City of Pittsburg, Chamber of Commerce, "Citizen of the Year Award for 2001." In June of 2002, Bill Glynn was elected as Commander of American Legion Post 151. In July of 2002, Bill Glynn was elected to the position of Chairman of the City of Pittsburg Planning Commission. In August of 2002, he was named the President Elect of the Pittsburg Rotary Club.

Bill Glynn has earned a Doctoral Degree in Educational Administration from the University of La Verne. He elected to pursue a dual masters degree program and graduated from La Verne College with a Masters Degree in Management Science and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Bill Glynn has also completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School. He is presently pursuing an Associate of Science Degree in Viticulture & Wine Technology from Napa Valley College.

In addition, Bill Glynn has earned a Certificate of Completion from the California Superintendents Academy sponsored by the Association Of California School Administrators (ACSA). He has also earned a Certificate of Completion from the Business Managers Academy sponsored by the California Association of School Business Officials (CASBO). Bill Glynn has also earned a Certificate of Completion from the City of Pittsburg, Chamber of Commerce, for completing the East County Leadership Program.

Bill Glynn and his wife Diana have enjoyed their waterfront home in Marina Park since moving to the downtown area of the City of Pittsburg in February of 1990.
