California Needs Mary Toman as Its Next State TreasurerBy Mary A. TomanCandidate for State Treasurer; State of California; Republican Party | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
As a Former Deputy Treasurer and Bush Administration Official from 1989-92, Mary Will Be Ready on Day 1 to Solve the State's Financial ProblemsI fully understand what it takes to be the State Treasurer because of my experience as Deputy Treasurer and as a senior official in the U.S. Commerce Department under President George H.W. Bush. The State Treasurer invests the State's money, awards bond deals and helps to manage the pension money of hard working public employees. I have long and successful experience in all of these areas. As a Harvard MBA and Stanford economics graduate, I have been trained in exactly the areas where California needs help now. California is in a financial crisis. There is a $12 budget billion deficit, growing by the day. There is a $4.3 billion bond deal on which the State will have to pay $780 million in extra interest and penalties. We need strong and effective leadership from your next Treasurer. I can provide that decisive action starting on Day One. In addition to my government service, I have worked for top Wall Street firms. I know what it will take to restore confidence and financial responsibility and I will start taking those strong and effective measures the moment I am sworn into office. I will run an open State Treasurer's Office in which the Treasurer is completely accessible to the public and the press. It's your money that's being managed in Sacramento, and you have a complete right to know exactly what's being done with it and why. We've got to create an attitude in Sacramento that you, the people of this Golden State -- who've created the fifth largest economy on Earth -- are the most important priority. Serving you well and with the highest integrity will always be my number one priority. I pledge to make every decision based on what's best for you, to close the deficit and improve the State's bond rating so your hard-earned tax dollars can be spent on education, healthcare, transportation and public safety, not on higher interest charges. I ask for your vote and your support on March 5. |
