Two years ago we were in the midst of prosperity, progress, and peace. This was the foundation of how we lived our lives and the world we know has changed. The terrorist events on September 11th forced us to defend ourselves against the worst possible enemy - hate. Our President is doing everything possible to put a stop to these terrorists and this is no small task. In addition we are struggling with economic recession and increasing unemployment. We need the America people to participate in fighting terrorism, creating economic recovery, and begin rebuilding America. It is time to stop the division among us and start standing united and working together as one people - American people. Standing united as one race of human beings, putting aside our differences and working together to solve our problems will produce the results we need. Working together is not difficult when we recognize that we are human beings first and that everything else is really secondary. Many will find it difficult, but I know in my heart that we can stand united and successfully work together. Voting is one big contribution that you can make as an American citizen. When you vote you let those who represent you know what it is you want for your country. When only 30% of the people vote and the vote is roughly split 50/50 among two candidates, the winning candidate really only represents 15% of the people. How is it possible for the newly elected representative to do his job and fulfill your expectations if he has no idea what the community desires? When everyone votes, elected officials stand up and take notice, and become responsive to the public they serve. Elected officials know that they must perform or they will be replaced in the next election cycle. You make a difference when you VOTE! California has the world's 5th largest economy, but has been lagging in keeping up with our growing population. It is time to begin building tomorrows California. We need additional transportation solutions, such as high-speed rail, expanded light rail alignments, and improved highway systems. We need additional watershed capacity for commercial, residential, and agricultural needs, including hydroelectric power generation. We need an economic environment that will attract businesses to California because of the attractive business environment, low tax and paperwork requirements, including an efficient distribution network. We need to evolve our educational system to give our children the best possible foundation for their future. Every child should be prepared and be able to successfully attend and earn a college degree. This should be our goal for our children in the California Public School System. We need to produce an educated, available, and talented work force that will make California the place to do business. Our children deserve no less. In spite of the current economic and political problems, it is time to plan and execute infrastructure projects to create jobs, stimulate the economy, and bring tomorrow's California here today. In seeking to represent you in Congress, I promise to serve and work in the building tomorrows California. |
