Candidate for
State Senator; District 12; Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate

Armando Marin Flores was born in Modesto in 1951. His mother, Francesca, was born in Colorado. His father, Augustine, was born in Mexico, immigrating to the United States at the age of three. Armando grew up in south Modesto and now resides in West Modesto.

His sister Linda is a teacher with Modesto City Schools and an elected member of the Yosemite Community College District Board of Trustees. Brother Mario works for the City of Monterey Parks and Recreation Department and is a professional musician. Brother Cortez also lives in Monterey and is also a musician.

Thirty years ago, Armando married his high school sweetheart Sue, who is now a Registered Nurse in Modesto. They have three grown children, Monica, 24, is a student at Purdue University Veterinary School. Christopher, 20, is a graduate of Columbia Culinary Arts Program. Julian, 18, is a first year student at Stanford University.

Education

Armando attended Tuolumne Elementary School, Mark Twain Jr. High School, and Modesto High School. He participated in student government and athletics at Modesto High, and was elected there as the first Student Body President of Hispanic descent. He graduated with honors in 1969, ranking 8th in a class of
400.

He received his BA Degree in Political Science from San Jose State University in 1973. He was elected to the Associated Student council during his senior year at SJSU. He received his Juris Doctor Degree from Martin Luther king Hall school of Law at UC Davis in 1976.

He served as a Legislative Intern with the California Sate Senate in 1976.

He is literate and fluent in Spanish.

Employment

Armando's work experience began in his teenage years, when he worked in the fields to earn summer income.

Followig graduation from high school, he worked for the Regional Migrant Education Projet as a recreation supervisor. He worked with the EOP Tutoring Program while attending college.

From 1976-1979 he worked as one of the first Hearing Officers in the California Agricultural Labor Relations Board.

He joined a Modesto law firm in 1979, practicing there until 1983. At that time he began his own firm, specializing in business and family law, and continues in that solo practice.

Professional and Civic

Armando is a member of the Stanislaus County Bar Association; the Stanislaus County Superior Court Courts and Community Committee; and the Stanislaus County Latino Bar Association.

He is a member of the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, and a member and general counsel to the Stanislaus County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Stanislaus Arts Council.

Armando's civic leadership includes work in serveral youth, law enforcement, business and arts organizations in Stanislaus County. His civic contribtuions include assistance with the formation of serveral non-profit corporations for community-based organizations.
