Candidate's Statement of Qualifications as filed with the Registrar of Voters for the March 5, 2002 PrimaryCarlon Perry Occupation: Mayor of City of Manteca Age 56 Mayor Carlon Perry, a lifelong resident of south San Joaquin County has been deeply involved in local government for 30 years. He has served as; Manteca Planning Commissioner, Manteca Electricity Management Coordinator, Lathrop Water District President, founder of a Senior Citizen Nutrition Program, Manteca City Councilman, 1992-1998, and Manteca Mayor, 1998 to present receiving the largest number of votes cast for Mayor in the history of the City. To address common issues regionally, Mayor Perry was instrumental in establishing an alliance of South County Mayors, (Escalon, Manteca, Ripon and Tracy). A graduate of MUSD, Mayor Perry served as an U.S. Army Military Policemen in Korea. Completing his military service, he played professional baseball for the Dodger and Met organizations. Mayor Perry believes the focus of the Board of Supervisors should be better management of residential growth, aggressively seeking opportunities that provide head of household jobs, and developing an effective program that can reduce the traffic congestion nightmare faced by commuters. He believes these goals can be accomplished without an increase in fees and taxes. His ten-year voting record on the Manteca Council has proven his commitment against unjustified taxes and fees. Mayor Perry and his wife Kathy have been married 31 years. |
