Traffic and TransportationBy Chris HemingwayCandidate for Member, City Council; City of San Jose; District 9 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Traffic and Transportation Traffic congestion is a problem that affects every district in San Jose. In addition to traffic congestion, the potential dangers of speeding cars and red light runners are present on every neighborhood street. We must work to ensure that traffic flows smoother on city streets and safer through our neighborhoods. Some specific ideas I have to improve the traffic and transportation situation are: · Slow down cars on neighborhoods streets and near parks, schools, and community centers by increasing fines in these areas. · Increase pedestrian safety measures and make crosswalks more visible to drivers. · Work with each neighborhood to identify dangerous streets and intersections and provide solutions. · Increase penalties for red-light runners. · Ensure traffic-calming funds are budgeted each year in the City's budget. · Encourage higher density housing along the mass transit corridors that complements surrounding neighborhoods and mitigates traffic concerns. · Work with VTA to improve bus lines and service. |
