What does Measure V do? Measure V provides citizens the right to vote for their Supervisor when he or she steps down and a vacancy in that office happens. That's all it does. Without Measure V, taxpayers and citizens do not have the right to choose their respective Board member when a vacancy in that office occurs. Presently, the Governor makes such appointment.

We feel with the current tsunami of public policy issues confronting the County, it is inappropriate for a distant politician from Sacramento to be filling the vacancy. In order to change the current method, a Charter Initiative must be approved. A Charter County, for Orange County, has been long overdue. Charter forms of government operate with more local control by residents. Measure V brings us that much closer to local control, empowering Orange County and determining our future.

It's what a San Clemente councilman said, when the City of San Clemente adopted a resolution in favor of Measure V. "It's a no-brainer."

In addition, the following cities have enthusiastically endorsed Measure V. They are: Laguna Hills, San Juan Capistrano, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niquel, San Clemente, Huntington Beach, Placentia, Cypress, Laguna Beach and Rancho Santa Margarita. Most of Orange County's State Assembly and State Senate delegation have also lent their names to endorsing Measure V. A few cities in fact called Measure V, "the People's Initiative."

We are also endorsed by former appointed Supervisor Bill Steiner, and former Supervisor Marian Bergeson, both elected officials who understand the needs of the community and are intimately familiar with the operations of County government. Also, Reed Royalty of the Orange County Taxpayers Association endorses this Measure V as well as numerous citizen, business and political groups.
