CANDIDATE STATEMENT

JON N. KAPETAN AGE: 43

Occupation: Attorney

I am the Grandson of immigrants who came to America nearly 100 years ago. My father was a Colonel in the Marines Corps. I was raised to be patriotic and to love the United States. When I become Judge I will be able to serve the people of Fresno County.

I am tough on crime. As a former Fresno County Deputy District Attorney in charge of the Serious Habitual Offender Program, I support "Three Strikes," "Use a Gun and You're Done," registration for sexual predators and trying juveniles in adult court in serious and violent felony matters. The Fresno County Prosecutors' Association, the people in charge of protecting the public, endorses me.

As a private attorney with experience throughout California, I know that our county court system needs improvement. We are fortunate to have many good people working in our courts. I want to help them become more effective. I will do so by being more efficient. I will take the bench promptly and put in a full day's work. I intend to resolve cases in a timely manner. I will be respectful to my staff, attorneys, law enforcement and, most important, you; the people of Fresno County.
