Born in Texas, Erik has traveled extensively throughout the United States and the World. His father was an Air Force officer, his mother was a school teacher. He has lived in Denmark and speaks Danish.

Erik's father retired in Southern California where Erik went to High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Riverside in 1977.

Erik Graduated from McGeorge Law School in Sacramento in 1980. He passed the bar on his first try, and was admitted to the practice of law in November, 1980. Erik worked for the Board of Prison Terms for almost 2 years. He also worked for the Youth and Adult Correctional Agency. After a brief stint as a criminal defense attorney, Erik was hired in 1984 by the Stanislaus District Attorney's Office.

Erik has been a Deputy District Attorney for 18 years, almost 15 of which have been in El Dorado County. He has handled over 130 trials, including murder trials with special circumstances. He was the first attorney to use DNA evidence in a criminal case in El Dorado County. In 2000, Erik handled two murder trials among his other trials. He has recently been re-assigned to the Department 2 trial court in El Dorado County. Erik has been cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney to handle cases in the Federal Courts.

Erik lives in El Dorado County with his wife Carole. He has two children and three step-children. He has been active in the community with various fund raising events, coaching soccer, participation with youth events, and is a member of the Mother Lode Lions Club.
